Faith, Hope and Inspiration
March 9, 2015By Susan Jacobson

Path to the unknown by Alexander Tat on Flickr under CC BY-SA 2.0Miriam-Webster defines inspiration as something that makes someone want to do something or that gives someone an idea about what to do or create.

In my lifetime, I have been inspired to be a computer operator, mother, missionary, Spanish interpreter, teacher’s aide, case manager at a halfway house, caretaker for the elderly, and an English teacher.  It would appear that inspiration has made me want to do many things.

1 Thessalonians speaks of a specific inspiration, however.

"We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Thessalonians 1:2-3)

This inspiration comes from having “hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”  When we have a long-term, loving relationship with Jesus, the One who knows our heart, talents, and desire to make a difference, we can turn to Him again and again for inspiration on what to do with our lives -- and the endurance to carry it out.

Lately I have become aware that God might be calling me back to the vocation of social work after a three-year hiatus. My prayer and my hope is that Jesus will guide me to where He wants me to be. It is also my prayer for all who seek, hope and dream in Him.  Amen.

Per the Bible verse above, is your work produced by faith?  Is your labor prompted by love? And is your endurance inspired by hope in Jesus Christ?
