JOY Mission
JOY, formerly known as JOY International, is an interdenominational cooperative endeavor designed to assist women in their quest for a meaningful life, a practical faith, and a vibrant relationship with God. With every interaction, we are dedicated to helping women take one step closer to Christ...and one step closer to true joy.
JOY was first founded in 1991 in Vienna, Austria by Fran Dwelle as an outreach to international women. In 2006, JOY was established in Bismarck, ND.
Since 2006 we have reached out to the women in our community in six main ways: JOY Breakfasts, monthly Java JOY forums, small group Bible studies, prayer gatherings, equipping workshops, and practical helps. Over 1600 women have attended or participated in these JOY events, from more than 17 denominations and 100 churches. Hundreds of these women have had no church affiliation.
Why JOY?
Every woman longs for joy. But what is true joy, and why does it seem so elusive? True joy depends not on circumstances or emotions, which come and go, but it comes through faith in Jesus Christ.
You can have the same joy I have, and that joy will be the fullest possible joy. (John 15:11)
JOY Breakfast
The JOY Breakfast is held in the
spring as a setting for women to explore what it means to know Jesus Christ and experience Christian discipleship. Featured speakers address relevant themes, drawing on personal experiences. These engaging programs are designed to answer questions regarding life and faith and to inspire women along their spiritual journeys.
Java JOY
Meeting on the first Thursday of every month at a local coffee house, Java JOY is a small group forum for women to discuss topics pertaining to life and faith. Come, bring a friend, and enjoy a cup of java with JOY!
JOY Volunteers
At JOY, we believe that God created all women and that each woman possesses unique talents and gifts. We encourage women to
serve in areas that hold value and meaning for them, and we actively invest in helping women develop in these areas.
JOY Locations
JOY is headquartered in Bismarck, North Dakota, and is looking to expand into other cities. Please let us know if you are interested in starting a new chapter in your area.
